Indie-pop trio fun. are coming to The Legendary Roy Wilkins Auditorium on Wednesday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m. Andrew McMahon will open the show.
Having earned widespread acclaim with their 2009 debut album, “Aim and Ignite,” fun. decided to raise the stakes with “Some Nights” by teaming with noted producer Jeff Backer (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Drake). “We Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)” quickly catapulted fun. to the forefront of modern pop. The top-selling track of 2012 thus far, the single spent six consecutive weeks atop Billboard’s Hot 100, earning five-time platinum RIAA for sales now approaching six million.
“Some Nights,” the band’s latest million-selling single, has also proven an historic smash. The track followed the No. 1 success of “We Are Young” by topping the airplay charts at Alternative radio outlets nationwide, placing fun. alongside Green Day and Alanis Morissette as the only three acts in Alternative chart history to score consecutive No. 1 hits at the format with their first pair of singles.
fun. have also begun to reap a bounty of awards and other honors, including a pair of top trophies at Fox’s annual Teen Choice Awards. What’s more, the band has received prestigious nominations for such accolades as the MTV Video Music Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, Q Awards, mtvU Woodie Awards, and Logo’s NewNowNext Awards. fun. was recently named among the top nominees for the upcoming 40th Anniversary American Music Awards, earning nods as “New Artist of the Year” and “Pop/Rock Music: Favorite Band, Duo, or Group."
